"Flan O'Briens as we know it today was first Licensed in 1793 as the "Falstaff Tavern". It was built around 1780/1781 and as with most property within the old city walls belongs to the "Mayor, Alderman and Citizens of Bath", or as we know them today, Bath & North East Somerset Council. It has had many names over the last couple of hundred years including "The Birdcage, The Bristol Tavern, The County Wine Vaults, The Albion and Lavis".

The current gents toilets were once a public lavatory and some might say still are, but this is where the "Lavis" came from.

It has always being a town centre pub and over the years we have managed to avoid the fate of many other once fine city pubs i.e.. Nacho's and designer bottled fizz and dodgy euro pop. Though out our time here we have endeavoured to keep Flan's as a real city Boozer, some what of an endangered species in these parts."
